Bear Lake-Inspired Halloween Costume Ideas
Halloween is just around the corner and if you’re looking for something a little more local legend than last-minute Amazon find, why not take inspiration from the Bear Lake region?
Here are a few costume ideas with ties to our corner of the West:
The Bear Lake Monster
The most famous local legend of them all! Stories of a serpent-like creature living beneath Bear Lake date back to the 1800s, when pioneers and Native American tribes described seeing a mysterious creature swimming through the water. A blue or green “sea monster” look, maybe with water-colored scales or even a tail, makes the perfect Bear Lake–themed costume.
Bigfoot
Popular across the Pacific Northwest and mountain regions, Bigfoot sightings have been reported in nearby Idaho and Utah forests for decades. Grab some faux fur and you’ll fit right in on the trails above the lake!
A Bear (because…Bear Lake!)
Simple and still probably something you can grab off Amazon or Spirit Halloween! Whether you go for cozy and cute or something scarier, a bear costume is a great last minute option.
A Mountain Explorer
The classic “what do I have in the closet” costume. Think flannel, some boots, and maybe a toy canoe or map for props!
The Lake Itself!
For something a bit more creative, dress as the shimmering water of Bear Lake itself with flowing blues, whites, and teals that mimic the lake’s famous turquoise color.
