Day Trip Spotlight: Cache Valley

by Natalie Jacobsen

Just a short drive from Bear Lake, Cache Valley offers a charming day escape with its scenic beauty, quaint communities, and array of activities. Whether you're seeking outdoor adventure a peaceful retreat for the day, Cache Valley has something to offer for everyone.

Cache Valley is anchored by the towns of Logan, Smithfield, and Hyrum, each offering its own unique charm. Logan, the largest city in the valley, is home to Utah State University and boasts a lively downtown area with shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Smithfield and Hyrum have a more rural feel, with beautiful views and a strong sense of community.

So what can you do? Cache Valley is home to a wealth of activities, including:

Hiking and Biking
Spend the day exploring scenic trails in Logan Canyon or along the Bear River Parkway, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Some options are the Wind Cave Trail, Temple Fork Trail, or Logan River Trail.

Cultural Attractions
Visit the American West Heritage Center to learn about the region's pioneer history, or explore the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art for a creative twist.

Fishing and Water Sports
Relax and fish in the Bear River or enjoy some kayaking, paddleboarding, or boating on nearby reservoirs like the Hyrum Reservoir and the Newton Reservoir.

Wildlife
Keep an eye out for wildlife such as elk, deer, and moose as you explore the Cache National Forest, or visit the Hardware Ranch Elk Refuge for a chance to see elk up close.

Golfing
Tee off at one of Cache Valley's scenic golf courses, like Logan Golf and Country Club or Birch Creek Golf Course. Nothing like golfing with a view.
