Last Minute Costume Ideas

by Natalie Jacobsen

Halloween is fast approaching, but there's no need to stress if you haven't picked out costumes yet! Here are some easy and creative last-minute costume ideas for kids, adults, and the whole family that you can put together with items you might already have at home.

Kids

Superhero in Disguise: Dress your child in a superhero T-shirt under a button-down shirt. Have them wear the shirt open to reveal the superhero logo, as if they're mid-transformation.

Rain Cloud: Dress them in gray clothes and attach cotton balls or pillow stuffing to create clouds. Carry a spray bottle for "rain" or attach paper raindrops.

Artist: Have them wear a beret, a smock or oversized shirt, and give them a paint palette (you can make one from cardboard) and a brush.

Where's Waldo: A red and white striped shirt, jeans, and a beanie with a pom-pom make this classic character come to life.

Robot: Use a cardboard box for the body, decorate it with foil, buttons, and dials drawn on with markers.

Adults

Tourist: Wear a loud Hawaiian shirt, shorts, sandals with socks, a sunhat, and sunglasses. Add a camera around your neck and carry a map.

Smarty Pants: Attach boxes of Smarties candy to your pants. It's a punny and easy costume!

Error 404 Costume: Wear a plain white T-shirt with the words "Error 404: Costume Not Found" written on it.

Cat Burglar: Dress in all black, add a black beanie and gloves. Draw a mask with eyeliner or wear a simple eye mask, and carry a bag labeled with a dollar sign.

Rosie the Riveter: Wear a denim shirt with rolled-up sleeves, jeans, and a red bandana tied around your hair.

The Whole Family

Emoji Family: Each family member wears a solid yellow shirt. Use felt or paper to create different emoji faces and attach them to the shirts.

M&Ms or Skittles: Everyone wears a solid-colored shirt (red, green, blue, etc.) with a white "M" or "S" on the front.

Book Characters: Dress up as characters from a favorite book series, like "Harry Potter" with scarves, glasses, and drawn-on lightning scars.

Pirate Crew: Use bandanas, striped shirts, and eye patches to transform into a family of pirates.
