Winter Is Settling In
The cold weather has finally begun to settle into Bear Lake, even if we’re all still anxiously waiting for that first dump of snow up at Beaver Mountain. As temperatures drop, it’s last call to make sure your home is fully prepped for the season ahead, whether you live here full-time or you’re keeping an eye on a second home.
First, double-check your heating systems. Make sure your furnace has been serviced, filters changed, and that your thermostat settings are ready for colder nights. If you rely on a fireplace or wood stove, ensure your chimney has been cleaned and inspected for safety.
Next, think about your plumbing. Frozen pipes are one of the most common cold-weather issues in the Bear Lake area. Insulate any exposed pipes, keep a small drip running on especially cold nights, and know how to shut off the main water line if needed. If the home is a vacation property, make sure winterization is done properly so nothing freezes while you’re away.
This is also the time to walk the exterior. Check that gutters are clear, downspouts are aimed away from the home, exterior vents are covered, and that windows and doors are sealed tight to keep heat inside. And don’t forget to store or secure any outdoor items that won’t hold up well to a long, icy winter!
As soon as that Beaver Mountain snow finally hits, we’ll be diving into ski season, but until then, a little preparation goes a long way toward keeping your Bear Lake home warm, safe, and worry-free all winter long. Call me any time with your questions!
